One of the most fascinating things about human nature is how susceptible we are to becoming desensitized
This is an irony in modern American culture
We force ourselves to be ultra-sensitive to the beliefs and principles of others for fear of appearing bigoted and hurting some minority’s fragile feelings
Yet no one actually sticks to their own beliefs and principles
You think you’re strongly planted in what you believe?
And in your opinions and preferences?
But have you ever met daily resistance to a belief or a practice of yours for a long period of time and still not questioned it or acted hypocritically even for a moment?
Let me answer for you
NO!
Humans don’t hold completely fast to anything. Ever.
Human nature dictates that we be always plagued by doubts and reservations, confusion and conflictions
The human psyche is flimsier than Chloe Kardashian’s love life
As a result, the average person (every person, actually) makes choices contrary to their values
It kinda makes you question the point of personal values since they’re never heeded
After all, if you ignore your values, you’ve not just made some unusual decisions; you’ve discarded your belief system and instituted a new one
Because an individual’s values have, in reality, little value at all, moderation takes a backseat in every society, every culture, every regime
Show me a people that made it a rule to exercise moderation throughout their timeline and I’ll build my house on Uranus
It won’t happen!
Nor would I ever want it to…
Hence, addiction becomes a problem everywhere, every time
Even in a poor regime
There is always something to be addicted to
Trust human nature in all its pathetic scramblings for meaning and fulfillment to find it for you!
So think of your nation like a big team for a moment
If addiction is a problem in your nation, and it is, then you have an over abundance of weak links
Simply put, addiction is a problem for you, whether you have one or not
But fyi, you do
